Business Development - Construction

Phoenix, AZ

The Driver Provider is seeking a hunter to lead the development of new business within construction, infrastructure and large-scale project markets nationwide.

This is not an account management role and it is not a position built around waiting for inbound leads. We are looking for an experienced business development leader who understands how the construction ecosystem works, knows how to build relationships with the people driving major projects and can identify transportation needs before they become an RFP.

The right person will be equally comfortable developing relationships with general contractors, developers, project executives and procurement leaders as they are walking a job site and talking with the people responsible for moving hundreds of workers safely and efficiently every day.

Your job is to create opportunities where they do not exist today.

The Opportunity

Large construction and infrastructure projects create complex transportation challenges. Workforce movement, remote parking, site access, changing schedules, multiple shifts and large employee populations can quickly become operational problems for project leadership.

The Driver Provider solves those problems.

Our transportation solutions include dedicated workforce shuttles, employee and crew transportation, park-and-ride programs, job-site transportation, scheduled routes, dedicated vehicles and drivers and customized long-term transportation programs designed around the needs of an individual project.

You will develop the relationships and opportunities that bring those solutions to market and you will own the front end of the commercial process: identifying prospects and projects, understanding operational challenges, developing solutions with our internal teams, navigating the sales process and closing new business.

Once an account is established and successfully transitioned, our account management team takes responsibility for the ongoing client relationship — allowing you to return your focus to what you do best: building the next opportunity.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute a national business development strategy focused on construction, infrastructure and major project transportation
  • Identify major projects and prospective clients where transportation can solve workforce, access or operational challenges
  • Build senior-level relationships with general contractors, developers, project executives, site leadership, procurement teams and other key decision-makers
  • Create opportunities through proactive outreach, industry relationships, referrals, networking and strategic prospecting
  • Develop a pipeline of qualified opportunities across multiple markets and project types
  • Engage prospective clients early enough to help shape transportation solutions rather than responding to existing bids
  • Conduct discovery with clients to understand workforce size, schedules, site conditions, access limitations and other operational requirements
  • Partner with operations and other internal stakeholders to develop transportation solutions that are operationally sound, scalable and commercially viable
  • Lead proposals, presentations, negotiations and the process through contract execution
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline management, forecasting and CRM activity
  • Represent The Driver Provider at industry events, conferences, association meetings and other business-development opportunities
  • Establish a clear, structured handoff of new business to the account management team while remaining available during implementation when appropriate
  • Consistently deliver profitable net-new business and build a sustainable national pipeline

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who already understands how business gets done in the construction and project environment. You may come from construction services, workforce solutions, transportation, logistics, equipment, facilities, project services or another industry that sells into major construction projects. What matters most is that you understand the buyer, the sales cycle and the relationship-driven nature of the business.

Strong candidates will bring:

  • Significant business development or strategic sales experience with a demonstrated record of generating net-new revenue
  • Existing knowledge of the construction, infrastructure, development or major-project ecosystem
  • Experience selling complex services, solutions or contracts rather than products
  • A track record of building relationships with senior decision-makers and converting those relationships into meaningful commercial opportunities
  • Experience managing multi-stakeholder sales cycles from prospecting through contract execution
  • Strong commercial judgment and an understanding that revenue must also be operationally executable and profitable
  • The ability to translate operational challenges into practical, compelling client solutions
  • Executive-level communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong pipeline discipline and comfort being accountable for measurable revenue results
  • The persistence and judgment required to build a national book of business without relying on a pre-existing pipeline
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally as business opportunities require
  • Experience specifically within transportation is valuable, but not the only path to success

How You’ll Work

This role operates with significant autonomy but you will work closely with Operations and other internal leaders to ensure that what we sell can be delivered exceptionally well. We expect our business development leaders to bring opportunities to the organization — but also to exercise the judgment to pursue the right opportunities.

Success in this role is not measured by activity for activity’s sake. It is measured by the quality of the pipeline you create, the relationships you develop and the profitable new business you bring to The Driver Provider.
